GEOMETRY IN FASHION - FASHION TEXTILES PROG X KORLA HOME

Humptydump popped by while this lovely exhibition was being set-up. To our delight, we realised there are places other than IKEA for lovely fabrics in Singapore. What's more, the folks from KORLA worked with our talented textiles students to such great effect. Don't miss it!

Date: 28 March 2012 - 1 April 2012
Venue: Brother McNally Gallery. LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore
Free Admission

An excerpt here provided by Emily Wills, the Programme Leader for Fashion Textiles:
'Geometry in Repeat exhibits the collaboration between Singapore-based interior textile design house, Korla, and Level 2 Fashion Textiles students. Renowned for creating evocative, playful prints, and their use of bold colours, iconic motifs and strong patterns, Korla invited students to create a series of textile designs that  responded to interior trends and took inspiration from Southeast Asian cultures. Given the theme; Geometry in Repeat, students explored the trend of geometric patterns through analysis of repeat systems, motif development, colour and fabric testing to play with scale and technical parameters of materials and equipment to design and produce a collection of textiles for interiors. This exhibition showcases students textile designs alongside Korla’s distinctive designs, and the application of interior textiles in product, furnishing and home accessories.'

Inspirational Window Displays

As we launch our new post label titled 'inspirational window displays', Humptydump took the opportunity to traipse down Singapore's shopping belt. Lo and behold, amazing window displays were seen at almost every corner we turn. Not that we are on par with fashion capitals but we are definitely trying our darn best. For evidence, look no further than our post label. Stay tuned for updates soon.

Alessandro Dell'Aqua x No. 21 - Fall 2012

Love the hypnotic sound track by Pina accompanying the models. Part spy, part street-cred and so apt.

LUSH Cosmetics is back in Singapore!

We at Humptydump are over the moon. Since LUSH packed up and shipped out of Singapore almost a decade ago, the Humptydump girls have had to make our pilgrimage to Hong Kong to stock up on the delicious stuff. Half the time, we were wondering if the sales assistants thought we lived in some cave, while we made sure to leave no stone unturned in our massive sweep-through.

And what would make our hearts swoon than chancing upon a SGD$14.00 scarf made from recycled water bottles and vintage fabric? Its actually used for knot-wrapping your favourite LUSH cosmetics but who cares, we are going to strangle our neck with these beauties. Read more here. Hurry down now!

Address: Wisma Atria Shopping Centre. Basement 1, Unit No. 13. (Trust us, dont think you will miss the shop. As you get nearer, you will be able to smell it :)

Opening Hours: 10 am to 10 pm

The epitomie of ephemerality

Quite an eerie work (in our own terms) by Dutch artist Berndnaut Smile. We have always thought of capturing clouds but it remains ephemerally  elusive. Who would have thought these elusive creatives can actually exist within a confined space? Its like bringing something so distant so close, that it becomes uncomfortable. Read more here.

Juuri by Sarah Bottger

We are suckers for beautifully designed objects; it doesn't help that these are functional and oh-so-clever. With flexible rings, each of these eight objects morph into each other seamlessly, presenting infinite possibilities.

Topshop X Meadham Kirchhoff Nail Wraps

We first chanced upon these gems during the Meadham Kirchoff SS2012 collection. Irreverent and oh-so-cute, can the local Topshop please bring these in? We will buy a dozen, promise. Meanwhile, ogle here.

Living Architecture

From http://www.living-architecture.co.uk/

We first chanced upon this amazing structure in Elle UK. How this building defies gravity and still looks breath-takingly stunning is credited to this team of social entrepreneurs from Living Architecture. Hailing from professions spanning architecture, art, design and philosophy, this multi-hypenate organisation-social enterprise-.com-travel company is, in their own words 'dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of world-class modern architecture.'  We do not think anything can go wrong with Alain Botton as Creative Director.

Stricken by Roman Dresses

We are going through a Byzantine phase. The Columbia Pictures logo has always fascinated us at the opening of movies. The Romanesque dress conveyed both grace and strength, and embodies the modern woman. Yet the dress has always meant to be functional, and was deemed an easy dress to wear and make. Such contradiction and amazing qualities of the Roman dress fascinates designers to no end as season after season, we see reincarnations of it in breath-takingly ethereal designs from Bottega, Marchesca, Vera, Valentino or Lanvin. Seeing is believing.

Our very own homemade clock - completed in less than 10 min!

humptydump made this in just over 10 minutes and the project cost less than SGD20. Inspiration from CreativeJewishMum.

Materials Required
A screwdriver (optional really, if you have nimble fingers)
A beautiful paper plate (we found ours at IKEA at around 10 for $5.90)
Some cut-outs of pictures you like (again, this is optional if your plate is already beautiful enough or if you want to keep things simple. we recycled an old Dworkin cartoon calendar)
Most importantly, a clock kit from Art Friend (Click here for locations in Singapore. We bought ours at the Ngee Ann City store). It costs around $15.90 per kit and instructions on how to fit the parts are easy to follow.
An AA Battery (on stand-by. We are pretty sure you can't wait to kickstart your very own homemade clock)

Steps
Poke a hole through the centre of the plate using the shaft supplied in the clock kit.
Follow the rest of the instructions at the back of the clock kit. Its that easy.

In case you would like to customise one for a loved one, contact us at 92274074 (Agnes). We will be glad to help.

Have fun!
