Inspiration :: My Name is Simone and her lovely dolls

We were reading Simone's bio and one sentence gelled with us. 'Being adult is no fun'. And that was the premise of Simone's work, which injects a sense of colour into the typical mundane world of adults.

A Tribute to Agnes Martin

The first time we saw an Agnes Martin work at a local museum, we felt a sense of tranquility and mutedness amidst a sea of grids and lines.

Amy Friend - Of starlights and lost souls

We dont know what to make of the works of Amy Friend. It is enigmatic definitely. It reminds us instantly of something we have lost, something so precious but yet gone from our hands forever and will never ever be able to recover.

According to Amy Friend, there is a playfulness to these images. Yet to us, it felt as
if this lady has evaporated into countless specks of light.

An arresting image, and which reminded us of the Titanic movie, where the dead plunge into the deepest and darkest
ocean depths.

The haunting images of Todd Hido

First stumbled upon the works of American photographer Todd Hido while randomly crawling the net. These images blew us away and reminded us of the desolation and isolation of mankind, reminiscent of the works of Edward Hopper, urban landscapes void of humans. More works can be found at Todd Hido.

Illustrations from Crabtree & Evelyn - Himalayan Blue Collection

To launch the Himalaya Blue range of body products, Crabtree & Evelyn sent a very inspirational catalogue lovingly hand-drawn. The hues of blues and greens are so soothing, we tried something of our own.

the talented Depeapa

First got to know the talented Depeapa from a FRANKIE magazine poster and we were hooked. Hailing from Spain, Depeapa's products run from T-shirts to prints to badges, even tea towels. A tad pity the blog is in Spanish, but who cares? There is always Etsy.

Love the hypnotic sound track by Pina accompanying the models. Part spy, part street-cred and so apt.

The epitomie of ephemerality

Quite an eerie work (in our own terms) by Dutch artist Berndnaut Smile. We have always thought of capturing clouds but it remains ephemerally  elusive. Who would have thought these elusive creatives can actually exist within a confined space? Its like bringing something so distant so close, that it becomes uncomfortable. Read more here.

Humptydump can't get this out of our heads! The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Golden Age

humptydump watched the Heinneken ad and couldnt get this jingle out of our heads. Check out more of the Danish geniuses here.

'I wish I lived in the Golden Age, giving it up on the Broadway stage.
Hang with the rats and smoke cigars, have a break with Frank and count the stars.
Dressed to the night, we've had to much. Shiny jewels, casino cash.
Tapping feet, wanna take the lead. A trip back in time is all I need!

Sing it out loud, gonna get back honey!
Sing it out loud, get away with me!
Sing it out loud, on a trip back honey!
Sing it out loud and let yourself free!

I'm on my way, gonna make it big, gonna make the songs for the chicks to dig.
It's really hot and a little bit sour, we're getting your strength to maximum power.
Flying away from reality, whatever ever happened to gravity?
I see it clear, a shooting star! I'm a really good singer la-di-da-da-da!
(From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/a/asteroids-galaxy-tour-lyrics/the-golden-age-lyrics.html)

Sing it out loud, gonna get back honey!
Sing it out loud, get away with me!
Sing it out loud, on a trip back honey!
Sing it out loud and let yourself free! 2x

Ooooh, Silver screen on a rainy day, sally balls in a cabaret.
Shaking sticks, oh what a show, rushing joy from tip to toe.
Rambling down the boulevard, with a fire burning in a wooden heart.
My mind is set, I walked the line!
But I never really thought it would feel this fine! Yeah!

Sing it out loud, gonna get back honey!
Sing it out loud, get away with me!
Sing it out loud, on a trip back honey!
Sing it out loud and let yourself free! 2x

Humptydump x POPIN at LASALLE College of the Arts - See you there!

Humptydump is so excited! Somebody in Singapore is finally working to get the crafty folks together! to commemorate this occasion, we contributed our little humble 1m by 1m flaglet, which will hopefully be sewn together with the rest by other craft-folks for the POPIN tea party. A little about our work: entirely hand-sewn handkerchiefs used by uncles in Singapore, it is a tribute to old times and how we lose our innocence over time. Remember we used to draw houses in this style when we were young?

We love our house, and our garden, and our pond, and the trees, and the apples and the sun!

the haute couture mastro: Valentino Garavani - a review of the Valentino Retrospective Past/Present/Future Exhibition

Humptydump has never professed to be a student of fashion, but we stood in awe as we gazed upon showcase after showcase of haute-couture, many of them painstakingly hand-stitched with the tiniest of beads, exquisite lace-work, perfect cutting and generally very inspirational silhouettes, embroidery and sumptuous fabrics.

Considering that this is the only Asian stop (humptydump is still wondering why), the lengthy hike up to Resorts World Sentosa is well worth the trip. 100 pieces of exquisite haute couture pieces from Valentino, beautifully curated, even for the most ill-informed fashionista, was on display in all its grandeur, albeit the too-dim-at-times lighting.

Exquisite work
