Geometrics in Fashion

There seems to be a resurgence in geometrics, prints and patterns... and Asian designers aren't faring too badly.

The Korean brand LET-KUZMUS and KOSMOSYU, first spotted at Actually, had us enthralled with its modern take on geometrics. You might see many seemingly contrasting and prints at odds with each other but take a second look and the colours and combination, albeit strange, grows on you.

Eye make-up worth trying?

We were wondering how likely Asians can carry off such amazing looks without looking like a fish out of water. Looks like its actually possible. Asian models the likes of Liu Wen and Tao Okamoto have actually done so. What do you think?

We miss DECADRY

DECADRY, the company making transferable alphabets, used to be one of our must-have stationery. A recent check with bookstores points to the gradual demise of this seemingly painstaking way of having typefaces scratched and transferred onto our beloved project covers in the 1990s. We will definitely miss the good old days, when rulers, measurement, margins and the perfect scratching tool meant a better grade.

Humptydump loves jelly sandals!

It all started from a friend who cued us in on this little gem and soon, we were snapping up to 5 pairs every time we visit this tiny shop at Orchard Central. And yes, they do stock Melissa shoes too. What is incredible is how comfortable and live-in these jelly babies are, as we have heard horror stories of how feet are bitten by bad silicon and plastic. What's more, the shoes are very reasonably priced.

Check out RachelShoppe at Orchard Central #05-28 or get to their Facebook page at rachelshoppe@gmail.com. Else call Rachel at +65 9177 2050 or Jonas at +65 91455151.

Cath Kidston has officially landed in Singapore! and so has Tala!

With furniture stores the likes of Crate and Barrel and FrancFranc landing on our tiny shore within such a short span of time (we are talking about a one-year span), things are finally looking up!

We know this is old news but the last time we stepped into Tanglin Mall was almost a year ago. To our delight, we chanced upon Tatty Marsh, and our beloved Cath Kidston was stocked there! Look what we saw. Definitely coming back for a return trip.

Tangs, on the other hand, is cleaning up its act. Always a pioneer for pushing innovative fashion and interiors, it is now pushing the envelope. Just heading to its basement is enough to make even the most jaded interior decorator drool. We spotted Tala, a quirky British brand known for its bake-ware and bought a milk bottle, for the time being.

On the hunt for unique and reasonably priced sunglasses

It was time to retire our beloved speckies from MANGO, bought at a sale and which lasted all of 2 years (not too bad for a high street label). We were on a hunt and stumbled upon Lespecs, a quirky Australian brand at DH Sunglasses at Haji Lane. Prices from SGD69 though the Henry Holland range's a bit pricier. Not too bad, it offers a respite from super brands at reasonable prices. Have a look and decide for yourself. Alternatively check out Anthropology at Holland Village, 27, Lorong Mambong, tel: +65 6463733.

Whoever said cross stitch is for mumsy folks?

Once upon a time, Humptydump used to spend days working wee hours into the night making Precious Moments cross-stitch, sacrificing precious pocket money to buy countless DMC thread and counting squares from the patterns. After a while, we lost interest as there was nothing else we could do except stare at the finished product on a wall mounted frame. And then we discovered that cross stitch can be practical and modern too! Here's our inspiration for the upcoming flea market in August.

Hair Accessories for girls with short hair like us! Woots

Growing out our hair and stuck at a stage between tearing it all out, giving it up and shearing it again or bearing with it and accessorise to distract. Some inspiration.

Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg, elevating the status of animated gifs

Stumbled upon the work of Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg, who often toil for hours to edit such enigmatic images that evoke Edward Hopper, timelessness and yet never losing the quality of a still. To think that all we thought of gifs were unfunny 2D cartoons. This is what we call toil and dedication.

Olympia Le-Tan Clutches vs Kate Spade Book Clutches

The alternative to limited Kate Spade book clutches, here comes Olympia Le-Tan. Humps did some research and found out that these coveted bags sell for a whopping S$1850! But for the workmanship, ingenuity and attention to details, this is well worth the investment. By comparison, Kate Spade is a steal. In case you need the address, the nearest fly zone you can catch it is in Hongkong, the i.t. group of stores do stock some.

The Aalto Vase - A Timeless Finnish Icon

Humptydump received this beautifully designed object as a wedding gift some years back and have never looked back. While cleaning this prized possession one day, it suddenly struck us how this vase has always been so unobtrusive and humble in its beauty. Inspired by the form of a dress, it has ironically never earned Alvar Aalto, its Finnish designer, any monetary gains, despite its almost iconic status in present day.
